The Archipelago around Stockholm

Sweden's capital, Stockholm, is also known as the Venice of the North, because the city is spread over 14 islands. Stockholm Archipelago consists of about 30,000 islands and tinges sticking out of the sea, making it a paradise for people interested in fishing and maritime activities. The archipelago islands, many of which are uninhabited and accessible only via private boats, extends over an area of 150 km

1. Stockholm Gamla Stan

Gamla Stan, the historic area of Stockholm, where the city was founded in 1252. One of the best preserved towns from the Middle Ages in Europe. Gamla Stan is now equipped with cobbled streets, narrow alleys and Renaissance architecture.

Visitors can get to Gamla Stan by taking Tunnelbana (the subway) to Gamla Stan station, which is located on the eastern side of the district. From there it's easy to explore the area on foot.
